Harry Connick Jr. - Your Songs

When I was in high school, the TV show Will and Grace was my all time favorite show (she was an interior designer, I wanted to be one). So I always thought that Harry Connick, Jr.'s only talent was being an actor - (Grace's in-and-out husband on the show).

So imagine my surprise when I found out that he was a musician who could act!

When I heard that he was in fact a singer, I initially thought, oh great, here goes another actor trying to sing. Yeah, I was naive and very mistaken. Harry Connick Jr. is an AMAZING SINGER.

I just downloaded onto my ipod his latest creation, Your Songs. On the Your Songs album, Harry performs many classic songs that we already know and love (original to other great artist like Elvis, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, just to name a few).

Set to music by a full jazz band and string orchestra, this album is smooth, beautiful, and easy on the ears. I've found it perfect for playing while I try to get work done in the office.

My favorite song on the album? Track #7, "The Way You Look Tonight" (and not just because it was my first dance with my husband at my wedding, almost 8 years ago).

GET IT YOURSELF. Your Songs was just released last week, September 22. Go ahead and download it on iTunes or pick it up on Amazon for only $9.99!

WIN YOUR OWN! We have a copy of this awesome album to give to one lucky simple reader. To enter, visit Harry's site, let us know either what song off the album is your favorite or just something you learned about him by visiting the site.

  11. I learned that Harry Connick Jr first widespread success as a musician came when director Rob Reiner asked him to contribute the score to the 1989 smash film, When Harry Met Sally… The film's success led to Harry’s first multi-platinum album, an accomplishment made even more impressive by the fact that it was also Harry’s first Big Band recording.

  68. Harry grew up in New Orleans, and it is here you will find the roots of his love for music and performing. His early talent was shaped by study with such luminaries as James Booker and Ellis Marsalis, and he was but five years old when he began performing.
