Keekaroo Stroller

We bought a decent stroller when our firstborn was tiny, and it lasted us through to our fourth child. Awesome, really. But unfortunately, that fourth child wasn't normal. He broke the high chair that lasted through the other kids, making us buy a new one just for him, and he also outgrew the stroller. So we were in the market for a new stroller. For our six year old. Weirdly, they don't make too many strollers for six year olds. Go figure.

(Our six year old has Down syndrome. While he can walk perfectly fine, he still acts very much like a toddler at times and we have need to strap him into something to know exactly where he is while in large crowds or at the mall.)

Being stroller savvy by now, we had some high standards that needed met. We like the fold of an umbrella stroller. They take up so much less space in the back of the van. We like a hefty storage basket. That basket is a must-have at amusement parks or while shopping to store all the stuff that you have. It has to be hefty enough to tote around a six year old that's really too big to have to need a stroller in the first place.

Shockingly, we found a few that fit our bill. We chose the Keekaroo Karoo, because while it fit all that we wanted, it also had a family friendly price tag. (The competition was 4x that, seriously.) Our stroller arrived the other day, and we are even more impressed with it now that we've seen it firsthand.

Sturdy is an understatement. I'll bet I could ride that thing without damaging it. It's a wonderful piece of engineering. It folds compactly like an umbrella stroller, and takes up little space. Sweet. The storage basket is roomy. Check. And get this - the seat reclines in 3 different positions AND it has a 5-point harness. All the features of a full-size stroller, in an umbrella.

I only wish that we'd have gotten this thing sooner. Part of the genius of the design is that it will accommodate infants as well as toddlers. One stroller for all your needs.

Buy Your Own: The Karoo can be purchased directly from the Keekaroo website, Keekaroo.com

  1. Bummer. I wish I had known about this one before I bought my Maclaren. It looks like it is very similar and has all of the same qualities, but without the same price.

At least I was able to find mine from ebay, so it wasn't too much more then this one.

  2. Was the basket easy to access? I found that the Maclaren Techno's basket was almost impossible to use because of all the metal hemming it in, and this one looks similar. Am I doing it wrong?

  3. Thanks so much for this excellent review. I've been looking for strollers for my 4 year old for weeks! I've decided to buy this one based on your review.
