Joy Berry, Helping Kids Help Themselves

Joy Berry is the author of a line of self-help books for kids of all ages. Millions of kids have grown up with Joy Berry, learning how to navigate the world around them.

I was sent a sampling of her collection of books for kids of all ages, and I'm impressed with how straight-forward and honest her writing is. A lot of them include a read-along CD so the kids can listen to the book on their own if they're non-readers. The books address things like being polite to others, whining, learning patience, and even the must-have (for all parents) called A Fun and Easy Way to Clean Your Room. (Which was actually a big help for anyone with a huge task ahead of them. Like me, with our basement. Ahem.)

The books are written in words that are easy to understand and contain tons of fun illustrations that the kids will relate to. Even the teen's version entitled You Can Get Over It!, which addresses fears, stress, handling criticism, and tough situations (among other things), is chock-full of fun comic-book-like illustrations that kids will enjoy reading.

I highly recommend these books be a staple of your library. What toddler isn't craving a bit more attention when a new baby enters their house? There's a book for that! And all kids need to learn more patience (heck, most adults do!) so there's a book to help with that as well. It'll help your kids be more adjusted and mature in no time. That's something that we can all enjoy from our children.

Buy Them: You can find Joy's books at any bookstore, or you can get them directly from her website at JoyBerrybooks.com where you'll find a listing of all that she has.

Win Them: I'm giving away the set of books that I have because they're too good not to share. (Seriously!) Two winners will be named; one for a collection of 5 books for smaller kids (toddlers through elementary) and one for older kids (middle school-ish age and up). To enter, please visit Joy's website (joyberrybooks.com) and come back here to tell me something that you learned while there. It'll take a while (there's so much information!) but I'll wait. When you leave a comment, please let me know if you want the younger set or the older set.

Let's recap, shall we?

1. Visit Joy's website (joyberrybooks.com).

2. Come back to comment on something that you learned.

3. Let me know which book(s) you're interested in.

4. Be sure there is a valid email address where we can reach you.

Winner will be chosen Wednesday, January 13.

  3. I like how she stated that full control should be relinquished gradually, not dumped on a child because they reached a certain age. I like the younger set of books.

  4. I learned that one of her 5 Musts for raising kids is that "the parents’ goal is to have children 100% responsible for making their own decisions by age 12." I also learned that she has written over 250 titles!

We would love the younger set, though either would come in handy!
