"How much longer before it's my turn?"
"How many minutes before we go?"
For over three weeks we have been using a Time Timer in our schooling routine and around the house!! These simple "clocks" are set according to minutes that each task requires. Time Timers have a bright red disc that disappears as time elapses, showing children visually how much time they have left to complete the task. Here is a great demonstration.
Let me tell you... these simple clocks are wonderful. Pre-Time Timer had a "bit" of fussing before individual reading time! Now Anna asks for the Time Timer, sets it for 20 minutes and READS the whole time;) In fact, many times after 20 solid minutes of reading, she's soo into the book she'll read longer;) I like that she can do this activity completely alone giving me that time to work with her siblings without "how much longer" interruptions.
I also use it with the younger kids and their learning to read times with me. By seeing the time elapse they see the end and work better for me. With such a great response I've used them for chores, cleaning together time, and sharing toys;)
There are just soo many different ways Time Timers can be used with my kids, helping them complete their tasks, making our days run more smoothly AND learning to manage their own time better. I really want to try using the Time Timer to get us to events on-time but setting the timer to our "out the door" time (for me too)!
They are definitely an asset to my family, our housework and our homeschooling;)

I would use this to teach my little ones the value of time. I would probably use it most in the aspect of sharing time.

We would probably use it to track the duration of activities. It would be perfect to encourage more reading, like you did, or to limit game time on the computer!

I would this at the school where I work to help the 4th grade Autistic student I work with know how much time he has left. The abstract idea of time is very hard for him.

I'd for sure use it to get out the door but I'd also use it for snack time or meal time. My boys are always asking when they can eat!

I would use it for school-related things...brushing teeth, and for helping my kids know when it's time to stop playing & have lunch, have a nap, etc.

ReplyDeleteI would use it for on-your-own-reading-time, and then also for room-cleaning time, both of which we are just starting to implement with our three year old. He would totally dig it. :)

I would definitely use it for homework... and reading assignments in particular. This has been a real problem in my home, and could use all the help i could get.
