The answer - FROGS! (African Dwarf frogs to be specific)
Wild Creations EcoAquariums ($39) are the perfect "meet in the middle" for folks that want a pet that doesn't take up much real estate in the home, requires little maintenance, and is super inexpensive to care for. Oh, and they are pretty darn cute as well.
What is an EcoAquarium? It's basically a self-sufficient, self-maintaining little aquatic ecosystem, where all elements work perfectly together. With little to no upkeep.
Thanks to Wild Creations, we recently added two cute little frogs, Sally and Sam, to our family. The set-up was a breeze, we only have to feed the little guys about twice a week, and they provide so much entertainment and joy to our family.
No worries either, these little guys absolutely will not escape their tank and start hopping around the house. The plastic cube, their home, comes with a tight fitting lid that has one little hole (seriously little), where you simply drop the food into the tank. It could not get easier.
As a parent, I love them because they really haven't added any chores to my already packed schedule. No cleaning of the tank (ok, you actually have to change the water every 3 months), and we can even safely leave for the weekend and just feed them when we return (no pet sitter needed for these guys)!
Wild Creations safely next day ship your frogs to your home. All you need to do is make sure you will be home to receive them and have room temperature spring water handy to assemble the kit.
They are my kind of pet!

I just looked around on the Wild Creations site. Do they actually mail the frogs to you if you order online? It seems to suggest they do but I'm having a hard time imagining how that would work and be safe for the frogs?
ReplyDeleteCute idea! I love it. I've been taking care of 5 fish that have become boring to the rest of the family, this would be a neat way to excite them all over again! I really like how they make it so easy!
ReplyDeleteI love that they are a gren compnay and help teach about the environment. I want this aquariam because my son loves animals and this would be a good way to see how they live

Wild Creations(TM) employs about 30 people and is headquartered in Myrtle Beach, SC and we would love the Jewel Starter Kit - All in One Package is perfect for us
ReplyDeleteI checked out the site. Sounds great. The hermit crab my son had lost his attention quickly since they only move around at night. We just raised some tadpoles into frogs, but it is time for them to return to the pond. This could be our next adventure.

I love, love, love that they employ 6 people with disabilities! My 2 year old would LOVE this. He picks up little pieces of dirt and tells me he found a little teeny froggy when we are out in the yard. This would be perfect for him!
ReplyDeletejnieset@yahoo.com
I also like to know they emply locals with disabilities, that is wonderful. Since we just had a baby, and my boys really want a dog, this would be a great pet until we are ready for a dog!
ReplyDeletei visited the website, and liked that there are a few different sizes and options to choose from. i love that it could be used at home or in the classroom, too. i think this would be great for us and our 4 year old BOY--what boy doesn't love frogs??!! it would be great, too, since i apprently killed our beta fish--a pet that's supposed to last forever!

I learned that the partnered with the Horry County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. They sound like a wonderful company who reaches out to their community!
ReplyDeleteThe frogs would be perfect for our house because my son loves watching water critters, but I don't need any pets that require a TON of work! Something with minimal needs would be great for him to care for.

I love these aquariums! They have a great website- I loved the selection. The ones I've seen in local stores are nearly as attractive as these cubes. My 5 year old brother wants a pet- this would be perfect.

My sons each have a fish and I have been trying to find something for my daughter to have as a pet and this looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that they've partnered with the Horry County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. An EcoAquarium would be perfect for us because my daughter has been begging for a pet like a lizard or frog for the past month, and she really wants this!

I like that they only hire employees who truly care for the animals. I think this would be a great way to teach my son how everything in the world relies on something for life and we have to work together for a better world.
ReplyDeleteWild Creations sounds like a great company, responsible with the environment and with diversity.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for families who want pets but have allergies!

ReplyDeleteI love that the idea for this business blossomed at......... a pizza place! LOL! I think this would be great for my daughters (ages 3 and 5) because they are absolutely intrigued by the world around them and this would also help them have some responsibility for a living creature without it being TOO much of a responsibility.

ReplyDeleteI think it is really interesting that they conduct their business based on their "Green" beliefs. I feel that preserving and protecting our environment while educating future generations is very important. I would love an Eco-System for my family because it will teach my children about the environment as well as responsibility without being overwhelming or too time consuming. Thanks for the amazing giveaway :)
