Imagine my surprise when I opened my mailbox a couple months ago and found this book sitting there. I quickly learned that my mom had ordered it for me, and really wanted me to read it. Bookworm that I am, I tore into that book immediately. I can't tell you how much I felt like Dr. Meeker was writing this book just for me.
I couldn't be happier about being a mom. But I know that I often walk around with feelings of being overwhelmed. Dr. Meg's book was printed validation of what I have been bottling up inside, and it was a relief to hear from a doctor (and mother!) that not only was it common, but it was fixable!
Dr. Meeker offers practical and easy steps to getting more contentment and happiness in our busy lives. She shares 10 positive habits of mothers who are healthy, happy and find joy in life. Such habits include: maintain key friendships, say no to competition and learn to live simply (just to name a few). I have found that the habits Dr. Meg has named in this book are realistic and spot on. As Oprah would say, I have had more than one "a-ha!" moment while reading this book.

Oh goodness... it's all been surprising! I'm STILL amazed (nearly 5 years into this business) how very different little boys are from little girls... gets me every day! :)
ReplyDeleteThe thing that surprised me the most is how overwhelmed I would feel in those early months. Nothing could have prepared me for that! And it still creeps in 4+ years later!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised I'm actually thinking about having another lol!
ReplyDeleteI just saw this book in the paper the other day and thought it'd be a good one to read and now that it's on simple... it's a for sure thing!!! =) I'm surprised how just when you think you have things down, they change their routine and you're back to square one!

The thing that truly surprised me the most about motherhood is the fact that you HAVE to make time for yourself. I'm constantly giving and giving and started to get depressed and run down until my mom told that I needed to set aside some time each day for me to just do what ever I want. When I do that I seem to be a much happier mother!

What surprised me about motherhood is how much I'm starting to miss it (the cuddling, nursing, ect.) now that my youngest is six and there won't be any more babies to nurse in the middle of the night.

The thing that has surprised me most about motherhood is how incredibly rewarding and challenging it can be at the same time. Very few jobs will offer you an experience similar to parenting!
ReplyDeleteThis review comes at a perfect time for me too! I recently delivered baby #3 and could definitely use some inspiration to help me not feel so overwhelmed. :)

What surprised me most is how clingy I am as a mother. Since I work full time I just can't stand to leave my daughter with a babysitter to go out in the evenings.

Honestly, I'm surprised that my daughters don't really fight with each other. They disagree sometimes, but there's never any 'knock-down-drag-outs'.
