chocolates :: vineyards gourmet

A few weeks back my husband took me on a wine and chocolate tour of southwest lower Michigan to celebrate my birthday (a perfect kid-free way to celebrate another year older if you ask me). We noticed that Vineyards Gourmet was a new shop since we'd last been in the area and decided to stop and check them out.

Vineyards Gourmet is a family owned candy shop where they make a wide selection of homemade chocolates and fudge.  They make all their candies in small batches to ensure their customers get the freshest treats possible for everything from their homemade fudge to their Chocolate Covered Bacon (yes, bacon hand-dipped in chocolate).

After thoroughly checking out their extensive selection of homemade chocolates I decided on a Dark Chocolate Turtle to appease my ever present sweet tooth/chocolate craving.  Vineyard Gourmet's chocolates are all sized very generously and at about 2 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter this Turtle was WAY more than just a mouthful. 

While our Turtles were delicious, the treat that will have me singing Vineyards Gourmet's praises to anyone who will listen are their German Chocolate Cake Rounds.   Imagine the moistest German chocolate cake you've ever had, covered with butter pecan icing and then dipped in milk chocolate.  Top it all off with pecan sprinkles and dark chocolate drizzle.  This is my new chocolate obsession.  I'm planning on ordering a pound or two tomorrow for "grandparent" Easter baskets. However, I won't be held responsible if they mysteriously disappear before the grandparents ever see them...
