Books and their Libraries

Providence and I love to read, I mean we love to read. We visit our local library weekly, or more, and check out a bagful of picture books as well as whatever chapter book we are working on. Our current read is A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. We've been reading childrens classics from our ever growing list for about a year now and have enjoyed each one.

One of our favorite reads to date was Alice's Adventures In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, the reason behind this I believe was the illustrator, Helen Oxenbury. While she may have changed the Alice many may remember growing up with, I believe she's crated a beautiful one that will withstand the test of time. I personally love her interpretations and beautiful art, and the book is filled with them, each page dripping with her timeless pieces.

Helen Oxenbury has illustrated many other books including one of my favorite picture books, We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. Again I think it is the illustrations, as well as the fun repetitive story that would draw Providence and me back to this one again and again.

Helen Oxenbury easily makes it into my favorite illustrators. With her simple beautiful work, her illustrations shine and because of that they make the accompanying text shine brighter as well.

Find your library: If you don't visit your local library you are missing out on a fantastic resource, and I would encourage you to locate one PublicLibraries.com has a great list, by state and city. It will even give you your libraries website, address, and phone number.
