The Oopdoo Hug

It seems like almost every day at my home someone gets mildly hurt. Injuries range from a stubbed toe, bruise on the knee, tummy ache, or a case of the hurt feelings.

For some unexplained reason, my girls love band-aids (I've started to hide them on a shelf way up high) and ask for them repeatedly. In fact, one of the first words my one year old learned is "ouch".

In my opinion, band-aids are expensive to use if your not really bleeding (or "blooding" as my 4 year olds says), and let's face it, not all boo boo's bleed. The Oopdoo hug is a brilliant product, created by a clever mom, that fixes and sooths all imaginary, or not so imaginary, aches and pains.

What is a Oopdoo hug? Well, its a super-soft Polartec fleece wrap in a shape of a bandage! The inside of the oopdoo has a giant pocket where you can hide a hot or cold pack for extra healing.

We've been using our oopdoo as a special blanket that we only get out if we're feeling low or need a little comfort while resting. It's a great alternative to medicine, and teaches kids that not all ailments need to be treated with medication.

Buy it! The oopdoo hug can be purchased online. It comes in many fun designs ranging from solids, prints to textures. Prices range from $20-$25. The oopdoo makes a really cleaver get-well gift for both young and old.

Win it! We're giving away 2 oopdoo hugs!

First giveaway: Leave us a comment letting us know who you want to give a oopdoo hug to and why. We will randomly choose a winner and send an oopdoo hug to the person of your choice!

Second giveaway: Sign up for the oopdoo newsletter on their website (home page, upper right hand), come back here and leave us a comment letting us know you signed up.

Winners will be randomly selected October 13th, 2008.

  1. I want to give my daughter Hannah a an Oopdoo Hug. She is the MOST accident prone child I have ever seen/known. She is always covered in bruises and has already broken her arm and had a cast--she is only 6. She is also OBSESSED with bandaids so I am always hiding them. This would be PERFECT for her!!

  2. I would love these for the kids. They're wide enough that they actually fit like a hug and I love that you can insert a cold pack or warm pack inside. Fantastic!

  3. I would love to give my son Mason an Oopdoo Hug. Whenever he gets hurt he always asks for a kiss and a bandage, even if it's just a little bump. I can always manage a kiss, but he just takes the bandage right off. This would be a great gift for him!

  5. I would give my daughter Katherine an Oopdoo Hug. The last few months have put her into an emotional tailspin: we brought her new baby brother home from the hospital, we went on several vacations which threw all routine out the window, daddy was home for a month on sabbatical from work then started traveling again frequently, she started preschool, she is turning 3, and she has a mommmy dealing with all of that too! Needless to say she could use a hug and it would save me from wasting bandaids on imaginary booboos that crop up when she needs attention.

  6. What a fun idea! This might work well for my son... so far he doesn't get bandaids... :)

  7. That is the cutest idea ever. I would give it to my daughter because she's becoming a very accident prone toddler and would really benefit from something as cuddly yet practical as this.

  15. I would love to give an Oopdoo Hug to my daughter. She has a blood disorder than makes her immune system not as strong as it should be, so she gets almost every "bug" or "icky" that goes around. This would be a great comfort for her.

  84. These are the neatest things. I have 4 kids (ages 5-18). I've had to ration band-aids, as the 5yo once thought they looked great...one on EVERY tile in the bathroom. Today, though, I would give it to my son. He had surgery today and is hurting a lot more than he thought he would. Even though he's legally an adult, I don't think an oopdoo from mom would be too embarassing, do you? ;)
