Book review - Mojo Mom

Before I was a mother, I identified myself with my career in Interior Design. When I found myself pleasantly surprised with the expectation of a new baby, my identity immediately shifted from career woman to being someones Mom. Not being experienced with what Motherhood entailed, I often was confused and left to wonder "who am I now, now that I am a Mom?"

Now that I'm 5 years into this "mom thing" - when I'm asked to describe myself, I often immediately answer that I'm a Mom to two amazing little girls. While this is exactly who I want to be (and wouldn't change it for all the money in the world,) I know that I am so much more the just a mom.

A new book by Amy Tiemann, Ph.D.; Mojo Mom: Nurturing Your Self While Raising a Family is all about helping new (and seasoned) Mothers find their inner Mojo. What's Mojo you ask? "Mojo's is the feeling you get when you're at the top of your game, juggling the kids, life and your own needs - even if it's for one glorious afternoon"

I've found this book very down to earth and applicable to my own life. I've often struggled with the balancing act of taking care of a young family while trying to have it all. Tiemann offers fantastic suggestions and incite on how to create time to take care of yourself, cultivating your dreams and ambitions, deal with common emotions that come along with Motherhood (ahem, guilt and anxiety, that's me) and becoming the best woman (and mom) you can become.

This book is a quick read, 10 well written chapters ranging from those hazy days of living with a newborn to reentry into the workforce.

GET YOUR OWN! Mojo Mom (retail $16.99) would be a fantastic baby shower gift for any new mom - or any mom for that matter that needs a little mojo back in their life.
